Product Insert information and MR Screening form inclusion. My proposals. April 2021

Product Insert inclusion:

Gadolinium Deposition Disease( GDD) is a presumed immunological disease due to retention of Gadolinium in the body. Sufferers may have any level of renal function, including normal. All GBCAs can result in GDD. Disease is characterized by the following: onset within 1 month of GBCA injection (often within minutes), and symptoms* include, but are not restricted to, the following: brain fog, burning skin pain, skin color changes, sharp bone pain, muscle twitching, and pins and needles sensation. If the individual experiences this, at the present time, the recommendation is to never receive another GBCA injection again.

* additional common symptoms include: hearing abnormalities; vision changes; head pain; unsteadiness; gastrointestinal symptoms (including stomach and/or small bowel paralysis); cardiac symptoms (including high blood pressure, irregular heart rate); lower arm and hand and lower leg and feet (glove and sock distribution) pain, skin discoloration, and deep tissue loss and/or doughiness.

I have addressed this previously: all patients complete an MR screening form before undergoing MRI. For decades we have listed metal in the eyes on the screening form - I have done hundreds of plain films, even a few CTs looking for metal. Never have seen a metal in eye issue. Maybe there were only 2 case reports in the mid 1990's describing blindness/partial blindness due to the powerful magnet of MRI torquing an iron splinter imbedded in the retina. Same with pacemakers, we always ask on screening forms ... in the end maybe most of them are ok.

No mention of GDD... and yet GDD, of the 3 issues, is an actual real potential problem with some frequency. Here is another version:

MRI Screening Form inclusion:

Have you experienced, or still experiencing, long term ill effects that you believe resulted from a previous MRI contrast agent injection? These feelings* include, but are not limited to: brain fog, burning skin pain, skin color changes, muscle twitching, sharp bone pain, and pins and needles feelings?

* additional common symptoms include: hearing abnormalities; vision changes; head pain; unsteadiness; gastrointestinal symptoms (including stomach and/or small bowel paralysis); cardiac symptoms (including high blood pressure, irregular heart rate); lower arm and hand and lower leg and feet (glove and sock distribution) pain, skin discoloration, and deep tissue loss and/or doughiness.

Inform the staff if you respond yes.
